My Crochet Journey So Far

Hi! I'm Sam and I crochet.

I have always been sort of a "hobby hopper". From drawing and painting to embroidery and sculptures, I have always loved making art. Unfortunately, my attention span made it hard to actually stay consistent enough to be great at anything. While I wouldn't say I am the best at crochet, it has definitely been the most consistent and long-standing hobby that I've ever had.

In my very last month of being 28 years old, I became a mother. I had always wanted to be a mom, and my introvert nature made me think that I wouldn't be missing out on much by just going to work and then going home every day. What I hadn't considered was the loss of my sense of self when giving my all to a tiny human. Small things like taking a shower or eating a meal were put on the back burner and I was forced into autopilot for months.

Around my child first birthday, I decided that I needed to start doing things for myself before I went crazy. I started reading more books, which was a great vice to have since I could put it down whenever I needed to and pull it out again in my little pockets of free time. I wanted to do more artistic and creative things, but they all required setup and cleanup, both of which I didn't have time for and none of which I could have around the baby. The paint and embroidery supplies I had were just a giant hazard for them.

While I was scrolling TikTok one night, I came across an ad for a beginner's crochet kit. My first thought was "A craft I can make without a mess or dangerous needles? I'm in!" I impulsively bought the kit and started working on it as soon as it came in the mail. It took days for me to actually make progress on the project because it started with a magic circle and I could just not get the hang of it (I know now that there was an alternative option, which you can find in my list of 10 Crochet Tips I Wish I Knew as a Beginner). After working past the dreaded magic circle, I created a cute little crochet succulent plant and have been crocheting almost every day since! This first project was made in April of 2024.

Since then, I am always on the hunt for new crochet patterns, tips, and knowledge. I made this blog in the hopes that others can learn and be inspired with me. I already know that I am going to have so much fun putting together pattern roundups with all of the adorable and unique patterns that I love! I hope you love them too.
